Frequently Asked Questions

How do I submit materials?

Visit the Contribute an Item page of this website. Select the type of Item you would like to contribute - Story, Photograph or Image, Audio Recording, or Video. Then, upload your file, and provide a title for your item, a brief description, the date it was created or collected, and where it occurred. Enter your name and contact information. Note whether we can display your name alongside your contribution and publish your contribution to the web. Click "I agree to the Terms and Conditions." Click "Contribute" to submit your item.

How will you use my name and email address?

We will only display your name publicly alongside your contribution if you provide permission at the time of submission. Otherwise, knowing who contributed an item is valuable for our internal record keeping. We will only use your email address to contact you if we have questions about your submission. We will not share it or use it for any other purpose.

How will I know if you want my item?

If you are a member of the Shippensburg University community, and your item documents some aspect of your experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, we want it! Examples of items we're looking for can be found on the What to Contribute page of this website.

I submitted an item, but I don't see it on the site.

All submissions are reviewed by staff before they are made public. If you do not see your item within 2 business days, please contact us.

I am under 18 years of age. Can I submit an item?

Please email specialcollections@ship.edu regarding this issue. A parent/guardian will need to consent to your participation in this project.

I have no connection to Shippensburg University, but I live and/or own a business in the area. Can I contribute to this project?

Of course! Our university is part of the broader Shippensburg community. Many of our students and employees frequent local businesses and have relationships with local residents. Please share your experience with us.

If you live or work in Cumberland County, you may wish to share your story with the Cumberland County Historical Society. CCHS is accepting stories or videos related to the County's COVID-19 experience. Items can be emailed to Lindsay Varner: lvarner@historicalsociety.com

I would like to donate a physical object to the Archives, such as a flyer, diary, or piece of art I created. How do I give this to the Archives?

Shippensburg University Archives & Special Collections is currently closed. Faculty and staff are working remotely and do not have access to campus. Please do not send physical items through the mail at this time. If you have a physical object you would like to share, take a photo or scan the item, and upload it through this site. If you are unable to take a photo, or would like to donate the physical object in the future, please email us at specialcollections@ship.edu
